Five reasons which make us the best choice for you

1. Variety of Dance Styles and Methods

Highly qualified teachers with varied training and teaching methods are available to teach a broad range of dance formats. We offer classes in Classical Ballet (Russian Vagonova style to the Italian Cecchetti style), Tap (Broadway and Urban Street styles), Jazz (Broadway, Modern, Funk), Contemporary, Hip Hop and Breakdancing.

2. Our Dance Studio Advantage-dance floors for all types of dance

We have "Floating" Dance Floors which rest on a system of high density foam to absorb the shock and impact of regular dance movement. This benefits students by reducing fatigue and preventing injury that can result from dancing on hard surfaces.

The top layer of our flooring surface is a professional vinyl composite "marley" floor similar to the surfaces used by the Royal Winnipeg Ballet and the Royal Academy of Dancing in London, England and shows such as Riverdance. This marley floor surface has a certain amount of controlled slip to allow for sliding in dance movement, but is not slippery.

3. Preschool Programs

These programs for 3 to 5 year olds are a delightful introduction to the basics of dance technique and performance. They are designed to develop balance, coordination, grace and flexibility in the young student through the use of rhythmic exercises. Students are allowed to progress at their own rate because of the stimulating no-pressure atmosphere evident in these classes. Children end these courses with a good grasp of rudimentary ballet and/or tap techniques, without the frustration and boredom that often accompanies a regular ballet class for children who are often too young physically, mentally and emotionally to absorb the strict discipline of regular ballet classes.

4. Recreational Dance Programs

The students in our dance classes receive many benefits from dance training geared to their age and capabilities. Dance challenges the mind as well as the body. The young student learns to follow instructions, accept corrective criticism and work in a creative and stimulating atmosphere. Classes are designed to develop flexibility, agility, balance, elevation (jump), while strengthening ankles and feet. It is our aim to inspire in young dancers the joy, love and appreciation of dance as an art, in an atmosphere of fun and creativity.

5. Competition Teams and Teacher Training Program

For students who wish to pursue dance at a more intensive level we offer various programs that combine leadership training with intensive dance training. Our competitive teams compete in all dance disciplines and range in age from 8yrs old to 18yrs old. Aspiring competitive dancers must have prior dance experience and pass an audition before being accepted on to the team. Our teams compete both locally and nationally each year.

The Teacher Training Program is an on-the-job training program for serious dance students. Upon graduation of this program, students will be hired to teach for SPSOD on a part-time basis. After many years of dance training this program provides an opportunity for dancers to get a job that can help to support them through CEGEP and University. Teaching dance can even become a full time career if they choose. The program has had many graduates who have taught both recreational and competitive classes at SPSOD while pursuing careers in other fields such as medicine, law, business and education.
